Private Lessons for Flute and Piano

Flute Lessons

Stephanie has been playing the flute for 19 years, and loves it! She received instruction from Dr. Richard Kole while in Middle and High School, and from Mr. Tallon Perkes while she was at Trinity University where she received her music degree. Stephanie began teaching flute lessons while in college. She teaches flute to students  through high school level. Flute lessons will focus on tone, techinque, music theory understanding, and artistic sensitivity. It is always Stephanie's goal to prepare students for efficient independant practice.

Yes, please email me for suggestions on what kind and how to aquire a flute.

Will my child be able to skip beginning band if they start flute lessons by 4th or 5th grade?
If they are determined and dilligent in their practicing, it is likely they could go straight to a performing band in 6th grade.  However, some students need or want to take beginning band in order to attain the necessary skills to be in a performing band.

Piano Lessons

Stephanie has played piano since she was very young, and went through a lot of genres, from classical to jazz to contemporary Christian, before realizing she loves to play the piano. Her goal is to teach students to read and play music, appreciate it, and have fun making music. Stephanie teaches non-competitive piano-- basic piano and music theory through level 5 in Faber or Alfred methods-- as early as age 5 through high school, or any age students with classical experience who wants to learn to play from chord charts (i.e. popular music or contemporary church music).

FAQ:
How young can my child start to learn piano?
In this studio, students can start private piano lessons as early as kindergarden if the student has started to learn to read and has an interest in music. The studio accepts private piano students in pre-k on a case by case basis.

How much time will piano take?
In addition to a 30 minute private lesson each week, a student should spend 2 to 3 times their age minutes of playing the piano at home 4-5 times a week. For a 6 year old that would total 50-90 minutes per week at home, for a 12 year old 90-120 minutes per week outside of lessons.

Other Music Lessons

Although not her primary focus, Stephanie has also taught other musical subjects such as keyboard for contemporary worship, basic to intermediate music theory and basic conducting.  Contact if interested
